Pricing

Transparent pricing, set by the specialists themselves.

Most sessions on ChildWize are between £35 and £70, with a typical session at £50. Some specialised consultations cost more. Every specialist publishes their exact rate on their profile before you book.

How pricing works

Specialists on ChildWize set their own rates. They are independent practitioners running their own practices — we don’t employ them and we don’t mark up their fees. The price you see on a specialist’s profile is the price you pay. Prices are inclusive of VAT where applicable.

Across the platform, paid sessions currently range from £20 at the low end to £160 for specialised consultations at the high end. Most fall in a tighter band:

  • 25% of paid sessions are £35 or less.
  • The middle of the range — the typical session — is £50.
  • 75% of paid sessions are £70 or less.

Before any paid booking, every parent gets a free 15-minute consultation with the specialist they’re considering. You decide whether to go further only after that conversation.

See each specialist’s profile for their exact rate.

Why prices vary

Specialists set their rates based on their seniority and training, the type of session (an initial assessment costs more than a follow-up), and how long the session runs. A 30-minute follow-up with a behavioural support specialist will cost less than an hour-long initial consultation with an experienced clinical psychologist — and that’s as it should be.

How this compares to private clinics

Published guidance from professional bodies puts typical UK private rates in the following ranges:

  • BACP-registered counsellors and therapists: roughly £50–£90 per session, with central London and specialist practitioners often higher. (BACP)
  • Independent speech and language therapists (RCSLT): typically £80–£150 for a 45–60 minute session, plus travel where in-person. (RCSLT)
  • Independent educational psychologists: typically £400–£800 for a full assessment, with hourly consultation rates above £100.

ChildWize specialists set their own rates and there are no clinic overheads to pass on, so for many session types the ranges above are at or above what families pay through ChildWize. We don’t claim to be the cheapest option for every service in every case; we claim that the price is visible up front, set by a specialist who is accountable for it, and available to families regardless of where in the UK they live.
